Stellar DEX — markets & safety
The Stellar decentralized exchange is unusual: it is part of the protocol itself. Order books live in the ledger rather than inside a smart contract, and offers are matched by the network during consensus. There is no exchange contract to audit and no bridge holding your assets, because the matching engine is Stellar.
That design removes an entire category of risk. Most decentralized-exchange failures elsewhere trace back to a flaw or a backdoor in exchange contract code — on Stellar there is no such contract to compromise. Orders rest in the ledger and settle atomically.
It removes the venue risk, not the asset risk. Anyone can create an asset and post offers for it, so a market existing here is not a signal that anything was vetted. The asset can still be issued by an account that retained the ability to freeze or claw back balances, and a market can look active while resting on almost no real depth.
So read a market in two parts: the venue is protocol-level infrastructure, and the asset trading on it is whatever its issuer made it.
